New Watch Alert: Tag Heuer Carrera Sailing Complication Seafarer (CBS2014.FT6293)

Tag Heuer just released the most insane maritime-themed watch that actually has me thinking about adding a Tag to my collection. The 42mm Tag Heuer Carrera Sailing Complication "Seafarer" is a collaboration with Hodinkee that combines Tag’s latest glassbox-style chronograph with a multi-colored nautical theme.

The watch draws inspiration from a 1968 collaboration between Tag and Abercrombie and Fitch which is a niche reference but I absolutely love it.

I tend to avoid most nautical-themed watches as they seem useless outside of very specific situations, such as Rolex’s YachtMaster II Regatta timer or Omega’s Seamaster Apnea (although I do love my Ulysse Nardin Annual Calendar). However, something about the nautical colors juxtaposed against the black dial and the subtle tide sub-dial really surprised me.

Powered by the TH2-12 in-house movement, the Seafarer has an 80-hour power reserve and is able to accurately track tides in the left sub-dial. The boxed sapphire crystal fully encapsulates the dial and reveals the sloped outer minute ring that is also a nod to vintage Tag Carrera designs.

This limited edition Seafarer is available starting soon for $7,950 and just 968 examples will be produced, but are most likely already completely spoken for.
